5 Zero Waste DIY Ideas

Going zero-waste is a great way to reduce your waste, especially in regards to plastic. The plastic crisis we are facing is affecting the planet as a whole and the animals within it. Learning how to use less plastic in our everyday lives and avoiding single-use plastics is a great way to reduce our personal contribution to plastic pollution. Whether you are looking to save money or you simply love to craft, these simple 5 DIY ideas will help you live more eco-friendly by reducing your overall waste and reusing as much as possible.

Twine Scrubbing Sponge:  Most sponges are made with plastic and are difficult to recycle. Instead, make your own zero-waste scrubbing sponge out of twine that is compostable.

Reusable Snack Bags:  Instead of purchasing single-use plastic bags, why not make your own reusable snack bags? These easy DIY bags require some basic sewing skills and some Velcro.

Fabric Sandwich Bags:  Need something a little bigger for sandwiches? These DIY reusable sandwich bags will help you cut down on plastic and reduce waste even more. Again all you need is some fabric, velcro and a sewing machine and you’re good to go.

DIY Beeswax Wraps:  As an alternative to wasteful plastic wrap that’s hard to recycle and harmful for the environment, create your own reusable beeswax food wraps using cotton fabric scraps and beeswax pellets.

Makeup Remover Pads:  Using disposable cotton pads has environmental drawbacks since it takes a lot of water to produce cotton. Create your own makeup remover pads that you can also use for scrubbing your skin or as baby wipes. Once used, simply wash and use again.
