A pocket door is exactly what its name suggests, a door that slides into a pocket created in a wall. Either the wall is constructed to suit the door or a false lining can be added to an existing wall to create the pocket.
“Pocket doors are particularly versatile architectural elements. They’re there when you need privacy and gone when you don’t.” (Eric Reinholdt, Houzz)
Hinged doors are a long-standing staple for most properties, but many homeowners are recognising the practical, aesthetic and space-saving capabilities of installing pocket doors.
Pocket Doors are a great addition to a home where space is at a premium, for example en-suite bathrooms or walk in wardrobes. The system allows the door to neatly slide into the cavity wall to create a minimalistic finish.
Pocket Doors are also ideal for open plan living, adding a huge amount of flexibility to your space as the doors are completely concealed when open. All our Pocket Door kits come complete with PC Henderson Hardware and the door of your choice. Simply browse our selection for inspiration:

What are the benefits?
- Single, narrow pocket doors are the perfect way to link confined areas, such as bedrooms and en-suites. Our changing lifestyles have resulted in a desire to be able to close off and open up our living spaces and this allows us flexibility in how we use our homes
- Without a hinged door in the way, every inch of space can be utilised, so pocket doors can help you to get the most out of your floor plan
- Far more discreet when left open and requires less floor area than standard doors to function
- Great for small rooms, such as en-suite bathrooms, where a swinging door might take up valuable space that could be used for storage
- This style of door allows you to place furniture next to the aperture and views around the space are uninterrupted. Light will flow more readily through the opening in the rooms and hallways/corridors beyond
- Pocket doors are particularly useful for people who use wheelchairs than a conventional swing door, which requires a lot of forwards and backwards
How do pocket doors work?
Pocket doors work by having a recess to slide into, so it’s a lot easier for them to be integrated into a new wall than an existing one. It is more common to create the pocket specifically for the door, sometimes requiring the removal of an existing wall and replacement with a new pocket system. You can also use an existing wall as one half of the pocket (retraining the wall’s structural function) and simply add a skin next to the existing wall, forming a pocket in-between.
Styles & Designs
Pocket doors can be plain, panelled or glazed in white prime, unfinished oak or prefinished oak.
At Green Tree Doors we only sell kits for a single door. The system allows the door to neatly slide into the cavity wall to create a minimalistic finish – fantastic for small rooms where a conventional hung design would eat up available floor space.
However, if you require a door pair, please get in touch and we will advise you on how you can create this with two kits which can be fitted together, one door sliding to the left and the other door sliding to the right and meeting in the middle.
Brushed aluminium door pulls are included in the kit for finishing the look and to allow for a smooth, flush finish.
